Signatures are commonly used to authenticate documents. When you sign a physical document, you are authenticating its contents. Similarly, digital signatures are used to authenticate the contents of electronic documents. Digital signature is a mechanism by which a message is authenticated i.e. proving that a message is effectively coming from a given sender, much like a signature on a paper document. So Digital Signature Certificate is a digital equivalent of a hand written signature which has an extra data attached electronically to any message or a document. Digital Signature also ensures that no alterations are made to the data once the document has been digitally signed. A DSC is normally valid for 1 or 2 years, after which it can be renewed.

TYPES OF DIGITAL SIGNATURE CERTIFICATE

 

Class 1 Certificate: Class 1 certificates shall be issued to individuals/private subscribers. These certificates will confirm that user's name (or alias) and E-mail address form an unambiguous subject within the Certifying Authorities database.


Class 2 Certificate: These certificates will be issued for both business personnel and private individuals use. These certificates will confirm that the information in the application provided by the subscriber does not conflict with the information in well-recognized consumer databases.


Class 3 Certificate: This certificate will be issued to individuals as well as organizations. As these are high assurance certificates, primarily intended for e-commerce applications, they shall be issued to individuals only on their personal (physical) appearance before the Certifying Authorities

Documents required for Class 1 & Class 2 Certificate

 

  • Specified Form filled as per given guidelines.
  • ID proof of the applicant (Copy of the PAN card should be attested by the Gazetted officer/Bank manager/Post master).
  • Address proof (Passport/ Aadhar card/Driving License/Voter Id/ latest Utility Bill like Electricity bill, Telephone bill, Water bill, Gas bill, etc, Property Tax receipt). This needs to be attested by a Gazetted officer/ Bank manager/ Post master.
  • Passport size photo(3.5 cm X 2.5 cm)
  • Valid Email Id and Mobile No.

 

Documents required for Class 3 Certificate

 

  • Specified Form filled as per given guidelines.
  • Certificate of the Constitution of the applicant (for example in case of Private Limited Company, the certificate of incorporation of the company) attested by all the Directors.
  • Board Resolution to authorize one director to obtain the DSC in favor of the company.
  • ID proof of the applicant (Copy of the PAN card should be attested by the Gazetted officer/Bank manager/Post master).
  • PAN card of all the directors.
  • Address proof of all the Directors (Passport/ Aadhar card/Driving License/Voter Id/ latest Utility Bill like Electricity bill, Telephone bill, Water bill, Gas bill, etc, Property Tax receipt). This needs to be attested by a Gazetted officer/ Bank manager/ Post master.
  • Passport size photo of the authorized person appointed through the resolution.(3.5 cm X 2.5 cm).
